fini brillant, compos\u00e9 de styr\u00e8ne et d&rsquo;une petite quantit\u00e9 de polybutadi\u00e8ne. Dot\u00e9 d\u2019une grande r\u00e9sistance aux chocs, il est solide, durable, r\u00e9sistant aux ruptures et capable de supporter une force importante sans se fissurer ni se briser. Il est donc le choix id\u00e9al pour les applications o\u00f9 le produit sera soumis \u00e0 une manipulation brutale ou \u00e0 l&rsquo;usure. Outre sa solidit\u00e9, le HIPS est un mat\u00e9riau l\u00e9ger, facile \u00e0 manipuler et \u00e0 travailler. Il peut \u00eatre fondu et reform\u00e9 plusieurs fois sans perdre ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s initiales. Il est \u00e9galement r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 l&rsquo;humidit\u00e9, ce qui signifie qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;absorbe pas l&rsquo;eau et n&rsquo;est pas alt\u00e9r\u00e9 par les variations d&rsquo;humidit\u00e9. De plus, il r\u00e9siste \u00e0 de nombreux produits chimiques, y compris les acides et les alcalis, ce qui permet de l&rsquo;utiliser dans une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;environnements. C&rsquo;est aussi un bon isolant et son co\u00fbt est relativement faible, ce qui en fait un choix int\u00e9ressant pour de nombreuses applications.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;origine exacte du HIPS n&rsquo;est pas claire, car le d\u00e9veloppement des plastiques de polystyr\u00e8ne a une histoire longue et complexe. Le polystyr\u00e8ne lui-m\u00eame a \u00e9t\u00e9 synth\u00e9tis\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle, mais ce n&rsquo;est que dans les ann\u00e9es 1950 que les chercheurs ont mis au point des m\u00e9thodes permettant de le produire en grandes quantit\u00e9s et \u00e0 faible co\u00fbt.
